Presentation
The seminar Human/Non-human: superhuman, human, subhuman proposes a critical reflection on the boundaries and redefinitions of the human through various historical, political, scientific, and cultural contexts. Starting from unsettling images such as Le Cauchemar by Eugène Thivier, the presentations will address figures of transhumanism, contemporary dehumanization, and the limits of the political and symbolic body.
From enhanced brains to exploitable bodies, including the display of the dying dictator, different forms of dismantling the human condition will be analyzed. The second session will transport us to the Golden Age and the confessional era, exploring the demonic and the anti-Christian as figures that strain the concept of humanity. It is an interdisciplinary gathering that invites us to consider the instability of the idea of the “human.”
