New books
The Casa de Velázquez publishing department publishes around ten scientific works each year, a biannual journal, and books on artistic themes in various formats. Depending on the project, it also collaborates with publishing houses, university presses, and international cultural institutions.
Fully and long committed to the challenges of open science and digital humanities, most of the books published as part of its four scientific collections are available in open access on OpenEdition Books. Similarly, all issues of its journal Mélanges are available on Persée (for the old collection, 1965-1996) and on OpenEdition Journals (new series, since 2003).
Our collections
Our four collections (Library, Collection, Essays, Sources) and our journal cover, without restriction of period, research in the humanities and social sciences across a wide range of geographical areas (the Iberian Peninsula, the Atlantic region, and the Maghreb) and specialties (archaeology, history, literature, geography, sociology, anthropology, linguistics, etc.).
Reflecting the hybrid nature of the institution, a new collection, Artis Amore, was created in 2023, offering works on the dialogue between research and creation in a variety of formats.
Mélanges de la Casa de Velázquez
A biannual journal of humanities and social sciences, the Mélanges de la Casa de Velázquez publishes original works on the Iberian Peninsula, the Maghreb, and the Iberian Atlantic region.
The journal welcomes diachronic, multiscale, and interdisciplinary approaches, in accordance with international scientific standards.
