THE ACADÉMIE DE FRANCE À MADRID
Art section of Casa de Velázquez
The Académie de France à Madrid (AFM), the arts section of Casa de Velázquez, coordinates activities for artists in a wide range of disciplines: drawing, engraving, sculpture, painting, architecture, musical composition, choreography, photography, cinema and video.
As much a place of creation and research as of life, it allows emerging or established artists to consolidate their working orientations and experiment with new ways of working. Each year, 25 to 30 artists are welcomed for residency periods of 2 to 11 months.
A cross-disciplinary platform like no other, the AFM promotes daily exchanges between residents from diverse horizons, between different artistic practices and also between contemporary creation and the academic disciplines developed within the framework of the EHEHI (School of Higher Hispanic and Iberian Studies, the scientific section of the institution).
It also plays a key role in the dissemination of contemporary creation through an extensive programme of activities open to the public, in collaboration with numerous local and international entities.
