Presentación
El principal objetivo de la actividad es reflexionar en torno a los procesos de emergencia de las oleadas de violencia política, tomando como centro del debate la oleada de Nueva Izquierda (1960-1996) en América Latina, Europa y Estados Unidos. Se indagará en sus orígenes y desarrollo inicial, así como en los procesos de difusión transnacional que están asociados a la emergencia de la oleada en general, y de sus diversas organizaciones en particular.
El Workshop será inaugurado por una conferencia del padre intelectual de las ideas centrales del debate, el sociólogo David C. Rapoport, quien reflexionará acerca de la oleada de Nueva Izquierda a quince años de su definición y primeros trabajos. A partir de ahí el seminario, que contará con especialistas internacionales en la materia, abordará casos comparados que analizarán el papel de Cuba como detonante y clave del origen de la oleada, y especialmente los procesos de difusión ideológica y política a las diferentes latitudes y organizaciones que en las siguientes décadas conformarían aquella.
El evento se enmarca en una agenda de trabajo más amplia en torno a las dimensiones transnacionales de la violencia política en el período y oleada, promovida por la Red Internacional de Violencia Política. Nueva Izquierda Revolucionaria.
