Members of "The Casa de Velázquez"

The Scientific Section

    The Casa de Velázquez has 18 places for members in its scientific section, also called "École des Hautes Etudes Hispaniques". Applications are examined according to 3 axes of recruitment (Ancient and Medieval Times, Modern Times, and Contemporary Times). When accepted the candidates can stay for a year in Madrid or the Iberian peninsula. The stay is renewable once, occasionally twice. Free members, non-remunerated, can also be recruited on the same basis.

    The appeal for applications is published every year in the "Journal Officiel de la Republique Française" (Ministry of Education section), around the month of October or November. Candidates will find all the indications necessary to make a "dossier" and on how to deposit their candidature (see for your information one appeal for applications for members and free members in the Scientific Section).

    During their stay, scientific students have a special status.


The Artistic Section

    The Artistic Section of the Casa de Velázquez has 13 places for members, called on for one year, renewable once. Members have a studio on location; with or without accommodation -that being their choice- and the possibility to use, given their specialty the multiple collective installations (engraving shed, music studio, photography laboratory etc..). Sculptors, painters, engravers, architects, film makers, photographers.. are regularly accepted in the Casa de Velázquez.

    The places likely to be vacant are, every year, published in the "Journal Officiel de la Republique Française" (Ministry of Education section) around the months of February or March (see for your information one published notice concerning the places of members in the Artistic Section).

    During their stay, the artists have a special status.
